The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018 (the Code) and the Guide to Managing and Investigating Potential Breaches of the Code (the Investigation Guide) were developed by the ARC, NHMRC and Universities Australia.
- The Code articulates the principles that characterise an honest, ethical and conscientious research culture, and the expectations for the conduct of research in Australia or under Australian institutions.
- The Investigation Guide assists institutions to manage, investigate and resolve complaints about potential breaches of the Code.
Responsibilities under the Code in relation to research data management include:
- [Institutions will] provide access to facilities for the safe and secure storage and management of research data, records and primary materials and, where possible and appropriate, allow access and reference (R8).
- [Researchers will] retain clear, accurate, secure and complete records of all research including research data and primary materials. Where possible and appropriate, allow access and reference to these by interested parties (R22).
