Advanced search

An advanced keyword search returns results based on a combination of search terms from various fields (format, language, and date).

To perform an advanced search, click on advanced catalogue search under the main catalogue search box on the Library homepage, or Advanced Search next to the search bar in Primo.

As shown in this video, an advanced keyword search gives you more control over your search results. It allows you to limit your searches in various different ways, which can narrow your search results, giving you a more focused and relevant selection.

Example Search

When performing an advanced keyword search, you can use a number of search options that will help to narrow down your results:

  • Apply your keywords to any fields, or narrow by the title, author, subject, ISSN, and/or user tags
  • Leave material type to all items or choose a specific format (journals, books, articles, images, sound recordings, video/film, and theses)
  • Limit your searches to a particular language
  • You can also narrow down the dates if you require

In the example below, our Advanced search will find theses in English on the history of Canberra that are published before 2010.
