Using Primo

A guide to using the ANU Library search and discovery platform

What you can request

Our physical and online resources are available to all students, whether you are studying on campus or online.

You can use the Request function to:

  • recall a book that is currently out on loan
  • request a physical item be picked up from the ANU Print Repository and bought to the Chifley or Hancock branch
  • place a Click & Collect request. If you need one of our physical items from the Menzies or Art & Music branches, but can't make it to campus during business hours, you can request the book be sent to the Chifley, Hancock, or Law branches (open 24/7) to collect.
  • request Rare Books or Theses for use within the Menzies or Law branches.

For more information about Document Supply Services including interlibrary loans and off-campus services please go to the Document Supply Requests tab.

How to request

If you are after a book that is out on loan you can place a request to be next in line when it is returned.

When the record indicates Local copy unavailable, open the record and scroll down to Location items to check details. In this example, the book is located in Menzies Library but is currently out on loan.

Select Request to place a hold.

A request form will pop up. Fill in the details including pickup location, pickup date, and any comments.

Primo will add this request to your My Library Record. The item will be recalled and you will be notified when the book has been returned and ready to borrow.

Print Repository requests

Please note: as of 13 November 2023, the ANU Print Repository is being relocated. All items at the Print Repository will remain discoverable in the library catalogue and will have a notice advising alternative methods of access.

If your search results indicate an item is Available at Print Repository, you can request that item to be delivered to campus.

  1. Open the record.
  2. Scroll down to Find in Library.
  3. Select Request.
  4. Fill in the request form - making sure you select the pick-up location and date required.
  5. If you are requesting to have a specific chapter or pages scanned and sent to you in digital format, add those details to the comment field. Include your student ID number or your barcode number if you are an external patron.
  6. Send request.

The ANU Library website has more details about requesting materials from the ANU Print Repository.
