Increasing your research impact : how to guide

ORCID and Author ID system

Ensuring that databases can aggregate all your publications is essential for correct attribution of citation data and helping to reduce author ambiguity. One tool you can use is ORCID.

ORCID is an open, non-profit, publisher-agnostic community-based effort to provide a registry of unique researcher identifiers as well as a transparent method of linking research activities and outputs to these identifiers. ORCID, which stands for "open researcher and contributor identifier", is unique in its ability to reach across disciplines, research sectors, and national boundaries and its cooperation with other identifier systems.

Unique identifier numbers, such as those provided by ORCID, make searching for an author's name quicker and more accurate. You can use this number to retrieve the articles written by the author. Remember to apply for your number so that you can keep track of the number of times you are cited by other academics. Refer to our guide on ORCID on how to set up your ORCID iD https://libguides.anu.edu.au/ORCID
