Mendeley has two components, Mendeley Desktop and Mendeley Web, which provide you with a reference management tool and access to the Mendeley Research Community.

Mendeley Desktop is the downloadable version of the Mendeley software, and is used in conjunction with Microsoft Word. Mendeley Desktop is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and iOS devices. To download, select the appropriate version for your device:

• Mendeley for Windows
• Mendeley for Mac OS X
• Mendeley for Linux
• Mendeley for IOS devices

Install browser extensions and plugins

• Mendeley Web Importer - import papers, web pages and other documents directly into your reference library from search engines and academic databases; available for all major web browsers.
• Mendeley Cite - insert references and bibliographies into your Word document; works without having Mendeley Desktop open or even installed.

OR

• Citation Plugin - insert references and bibliographies into your written document; install from within Mendeley Desktop to activate in Microsoft or Libre Office.

Installation and troubleshooting support

For assistance downloading and installing Mendeley on your device, the Mendeley Support Centre provides details of supported browsers and operating systems. Alternatively, ANU staff and students can contact ANU Library Digital Literacy Training for troubleshooting and guidance.

The second component, Mendeley Web, is the online version of the software which enables access to the Mendeley Researcher Network and connection with a global academic community of peer researchers.

To sign up for Mendeley Web:

1. Navigate to the Mendeley sign up page
2. Enter your email address*, first name, last/family name and create a password, then select Register
3. Choose a private or public profile. Public profiles are visible to other researchers and are recommended if you wish to find collaborators.
4. Skip or continue to Mendeley

*We recommend you use your ANU email when you sign up. This account will be used to sync all your devices on which you have Mendeley installed.
