Weather and climate change

A guide to archives about weather and climate change in the ANU Archives

This guide has been compiled to help researchers find information about rainfall, weather events, natural disasters and climate change in collections at the ANU Archives, including the Noel Butlin Archives Centre and the University Archives.

A diverse range of collections relate to these topics, including:

  • Academic collections, including research about land use in the Pacific, law course readings, and the records of the Cooperative Research Centre for Greenhouse Accounting.
  • Company records, such as Colonial Sugar Refinery Company Limited, that record rainfall and other weather conditions at various locations over many years.
  • Pastoral stations, which routinely recorded rainfall.
  • Peak industry bodies, such as the National Farmers Federation, which document policy and advocacy on issues such as drought relief.

Warning to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers

The ANU Archives recognises that our collections contain archival records and archival descriptions that may be upsetting and offensive to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by their use of racist, sexist, derogatory or abusive language. The ANU Archives has a responsibility to preserve and make accessible this documentary heritage in all its forms to support various types of research, and to reveal the actions of the past that have impacted on Indigenous communities, families and individuals. In doing so the ANU Archives also acknowledges that accessing some of this material can be confronting for Indigenous researchers.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that the ANU Archives’ online catalogue and online repository may include names and images of persons who are deceased.
