Australian Literary Studies is a fully refereed scholarly journal. We publish scholarship that is rigorous, clear, and has a strong sense of its place in the field. We are interested in scholarship which speaks to Australian literary criticism, as well as that which expands the scope of literary studies internationally. Founded in 1963 by Laurie Hergehnan at the University of Tasmania, and edited from 2002 to 2015 by Leigh Dale at the University of Wollongong, it is now edited by Julieanne Lamond at Australian National University.

English is an internationally known journal of literary criticism, published on behalf of The English Association. Each issue contains essays on a wide range of authors and literary texts in English, aimed at readers within universities and colleges and presented in a lively and engaging style. There is a substantial review section, in which reviewers have space to situate a book within the context of recent developments in its field, and present a detailed argument. English is unusual among academic journals in publishing original poetry. This policy embodies the view that the critical and creative functions, often so widely separated in the teaching of English, can co-exist and cross-fertilise each other.

For nearly a century now, the periodical English Studies has been one of the defining publications in the field of English. Unique in the range and quality of its coverage, it attracts contributions from leading scholars worldwide on the language, literature and culture of the English-speaking world from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day. The foremost position of English Studies in many of these areas is widely recognized by its international readership and its listing in the Thomson Reuters Arts & Humanities Citation Index®.

First published in 1965, The Journal of Commonwealth Literature is internationally recognized as the leading critical and bibliographic forum in the field of Commonwealth and post-colonial literatures. It provides an essential, peer-reviewed, reference tool for scholars, researchers, and information scientists. Three of the four issues each year bring together the latest critical comment on all aspects of ‘Commonwealth’ and post-colonial literature and related areas, such as post-colonial theory, translation studies, and colonial discourse. The fourth issue provides a comprehensive bibliography of publications in the field.

The Journal of New Zealand Literature (JNZL) is the only international, fully peer-reviewed journal devoted to New Zealand literary studies. JNZL, which is published annually, carries scholarly and critical essays on all aspects of New Zealand literature and cultural studies. It also reviews books of critical interest in the field of New Zealand literary studies. JNZL is edited within the English Department at Victoria University, Wellington. It was established in 1983, and was edited until 2014 by staff of the School of Arts at the University of Waikato, Hamilton.

JASAL is a peer-reviewed journal, published in at least two volumes each year by the Association for the Study of Australian Literature. One of these volumes is a special conference issue, whilst the other will be put online in installments through the year as material is prepared. JASAL welcomes essays that consider Australian literature in all its forms (fictional, critical, print, filmic, and so on) and in terms of its socio-political and cultural contexts.

Known primarily as a literary magazine, Meanjin reflects the breadth of contemporary thinking, be it on literature, other art forms, or the broader issues of the times. This breadth has characterised Meanjin for more than 65 years. Meanjin has published some of the earliest serious discussion of subjects that have since attracted sustained attention, including migration, television, suburbia, popular music, the Anzac tradition, Australia's 'cultural cringe', museums, drugs, food and travel. While the main focus is on Australia, Meanjin also gives wide coverage to issues of global concern. It is also committed to publishing the best of new writing in Australia.

Overland, Australia’s only radical literary magazine, has been showcasing brilliant and progressive fiction, poetry, nonfiction and art since 1954. The magazine has published some of Australia’s most iconic voices, and continues to give space to underrepresented voices and brand-new literary talent every single day. Overland’s mission is to foster new, original and progressive writing exploring the relationship between politics and culture, especially literature, and to bring that work to as many people as possible. Editorially, Overland is committed to publishing underrepresented perspectives on issues rarely given space in traditional media.

For 70 years, Southerly, the journal of the English Association, has held a central place in the making of Australian literature. Southerly publishes a wide range of poetry and fiction, critical essays and commentaries from writers and scholars all over Australia and New Zealand.
