Key databases

A library database is a large, searchable online collection of published scholarly materials. Databases allow you to find: articles in journals/magazines/newspapers, research reports, conference papers, book chapters, images, streaming videos, music and other resources related to specific subject areas. Databases are particularly useful for locating current information not freely available on the Internet.

The Library subscribes to a large number of databases available to ANU staff and students on and off campus. Login and password are required for remote access.

Below is a list of selected databases relevant to Italian Studies:

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)
A comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. Coverage is from 1991 onwards and includes political science, diplomatic history, international law and business, policy formation, development studies, environmental studies and country analysis. Source documents included are: books, journals, videos, conference proceedings, working papers, country data and maps.
Factiva
An expansion of Dow Jones, delivers news and business information from newspapers, magazines, newswires, media programs, web sites, company reports and pictures from Reuters and Knight Ridder.
Humanities Full Text (H.W. Wilson)
Offers full text, abstracts and bibliographic indexing of the most noted scholarly sources in the humanities, as well as specialized magazines. Among the disciplines included are: literature and language, history, philosophy, archaeology, classical studies, folklore, gender studies, performing arts, religion and theology. Content includes feature articles, interviews, bibliographies, obituaries, and original works of fiction, drama, poetry and reviews.
JSTOR
A comprehensive electronic archive of scholarly journal literature in full text. JSTOR has a moving wall that excludes most current 3-5 years. The database contains academic journals, images, letters and other primary sources in the social sciences, humanities and sciences.
Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA)
An international abstract and index database which covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics from 1973 onwards. Complete coverage is given to various fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical and geographical linguistics.
Literature Online (LION)
A large collection of full-text works of prose, poetry and drama from the 8th century to the present, with a huge library of criticism and reference material, including thousands of literary articles, essays, biographies and links to authoritative websites.
MLA International Bibliography
A subject index of scholarly books, journal articles and websites on modern languages, literatures, folklore and linguistics compiled by the Modern Language Association of America. More than sixty languages are represented in the index with coverage starting from 1926 onwards.
OECD iLibrary
This resource contains all the publications and datasets released by OECD, IEA, NEA, OECD Development Centre, PISA, and ITF since 1998. The collection contains over 1,200 journal issues, 3,300 working papers, 2,900 multi-lingual summaries and 7,700 eBook titles
PressReader
Access to 2,300 full-content, digital newspapers and magazines from over 100 countries in 60 languages. Newspapers display in their original layout.
ProQuest Central
A multidisciplinary resource which provides access to 20 of ProQuest's databases, with a variety of content across subjects including science and technology, health and medical and social science from 1905 to the present. Includes abstract, index, and full text articles.
