Aborigines of the Sea Coast - Film Australia
One of the first films from the Film Australia Collection to deal exclusively with Aboriginal people and culture.
Aborigines of the Sea Coast 1950 was produced by the National Film Board and directed by ethnographer Charles P Mountford during his 1948 expedition to Arnhem Land in Australia's Northern Territory.
Mountford filmed the traditional lifestyle of the coastal people of Yirrkala living as they had for thousands of years, depicting the ancestral fishing, hunting, building and boatmaking techniques. Presented here in consultation with representatives from the Yirrkala community and the Buku Larrnggay Mulka Centre.
