SuperSearch is an all-in-one search engine that lets you search the Library’s print and electronic resources—including journals, newspaper articles, books, book chapters and reviews, dissertations, and free online journals—at the same time.
SuperSearch links to full-text articles; suggests useful databases for your research topic and lets you refine your search according to specific criteria. SuperSearch will help you get an overview of the research landscape. SuperSearch is particularly useful for searching journal articles since the Library catalogue only contains the journal title, not the articles.
On the Library homepage, enter your search keywords and select GO.
Note: Remember to capitalise any Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT). For further information visit the Topic analysis guide .
The left-hand column of the search results page contains a number of options for refining, or filtering your search further.
Refining your search
For scholarly material you may select Limit to articles from scholarly publications, including peer-review.
Filtering your search
You can filter your search results by Content Type, Subject Terms, Publication Date, Library Location and Language. You can select more than one filtering option to update your search results. The numbers in brackets indicate how many resources were found.
Take note of the terms that appear under the Subject Terms heading, as they might be useful to add as keywords to future searches on your topic. Additional subject terms are available by selecting More…
Note: The Subject Terms are specific to each search you complete.
Are you looking for contemporary or historical articles? Use the sliding scale, or the drop down date entry boxes to refine your search by publication date. Select Update to refine your search.
Note: The sliding scale does not cover all available dates. For a more accurate search use the drop down date entry boxes.
By selecting a Library Location, your search results will be limited to items in the Library catalogue that are available in hard copy in a Library branch/subject area.
A preview of each record can be displayed in a pop-up window by selecting the magnifying glass next to the title or by holding your mouse arrow on the title.
Select a title to read the abstract and Full Text Online where it is available.
If you can’t find the full text article, search the Library catalogue for the journal title.
Before conducting further searches using SuperSearch you may wish to select Keep search refinements in order to apply the same filters to consecutive searches.
